Solid Waste Management Intern
Learn city-scale waste management hands-on by supporting real RIPS master plans and circular economy projects.
Are you a student or fresh graduate who wants to shape how Indonesian cities manage their waste? Sirkularium is opening an internship focused on solid waste management, hosted in the Waste and Pollution practice. The internship is always open: you can apply at any time, and interns join for 3 to 6 months by agreement. You would support real projects, from waste generation and composition data to RIPS (Rencana Induk Pengelolaan Sampah) master plans, guided directly by Sirkularium's specialists. A monthly stipend is provided, and the work is on-site in East Jakarta.
About the practice
Sirkularium's Waste and Pollution practice supports governments and companies on solid waste management, pollution control and the circular economy. The work ranges from strategic planning and master plans to hands-on advisory for cities and regencies.
Sirkularium has worked with a Danish government institution, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, under the Strategic Sector Cooperation programme. This gives the team direct experience with international governance and reporting standards.
Your role
As a Solid Waste Management Intern you work alongside Sirkularium's specialists on live projects for real cities. You help gather and analyse the data behind waste strategies, contribute to strategic documents such as the RIPS, and support the workshops and advisory sessions where those strategies are shaped with local governments.
This is a learning role by design: you are mentored throughout, your work feeds into real deliverables rather than simulated exercises, and the scope grows with what you show you can do.
What you will do
- Support baseline studies: collect, clean and analyse waste generation and composition data
- Assist in drafting sections of strategic documents, including RIPS master plans
- Prepare maps, charts and presentation materials for city advisory work
- Join meetings and workshops with local governments and stakeholders, and help with minutes and documentation
- Support dissemination activities such as training materials and public education content
- Learn Indonesian solid waste regulation and circular economy approaches from practising consultants
Who should apply
- Final-year student or fresh graduate (S1) in environmental engineering, environmental science, civil engineering, urban planning, public health or a related field
- Comfortable working with data in spreadsheets; basic GIS or data visualisation skills are a plus
- Clear written Bahasa Indonesia; working English is an advantage
- Curious, organised and reliable
- Available for 3 to 6 months
